ABOUT NIALS - The Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) was established in March 1979, as Nigeria’s apex institution for research and advanced studies in law. The Institute is also accredited to offer Mandatory Continuing Legal Education for Lawyers. In fulfilment of its mandate, it organises national and international seminars, symposia, conferences, workshops and lectures on any branch of law and related subjects.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP – Recent advances in technology and globalization have resulted in the exponential growth of legal resources and an attendant change in legal information processing and management. The challenges of these new developments make it imperative that law librarians and information professionals acquire the requisite knowledge and skills needed to provide effective services.
The aim of the Workshop is to expose law librarians to current trends in legal Information services in law libraries. Particularly, the Workshop aims to:
- Provide understanding on the creation and management of library blogs with word press;
- Examine the technicalities in the use of Moys Classification Scheme in law libraries;
- Examine the legal approach to indexing of legal resources; and
- Provide practical guide for effective internet search to legal resources;
TARGET PARTICIPANTS - Target participants of the Workshop include all law librarians in tertiary institutions, the judiciary, law schools, law commissions, law institutes, law faculties, law firms, Ministries of Justice and Parstatals, the National and State Legislative Houses, Corporate Institutions, etc.
TOPICS TO BE TREATED - The topics designed for the Workshop include: Effective internet search techniques and advanced boolean operation in web searching; current trends in collection development practices and policies: a challenge to law libraries; library blog with word press: creation, management and uses; Moys Classification Scheme: practical steps to cataloguing and classification of legal information resources; Cataloguing and classification of legal resources: internet application; and Indexing of library resources: a legal approach.
COURSE SCHEDULE - The Course is scheduled to hold as follows:
- Venue:Ayo Ajomo Auditorium, NIALS, UNILAG Akoka Campus, Akoka, Lagos.
- Date: 21-23 May, 2018
- Time: 9.00 am daily (Registration will commence at 8:30am on 21 May, 2018).
