The Director-General, Professor Adedeji Adekunle, SAN was a panelist at a Mediation Conference organised by Oakwell Partners which held on Thursday 14th September 2017 at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos State.

The Conference titled Mediation: A Core Business Process and Catalyst for Growth, had Ms Amanda Bucklow (FCIArb), an established commercial Mediator from the United Kingdom as the Guest Speaker.

Ms Bucklow emphasized the need for Mediation as a key dispute resolution method in law, business and other endeavours. She noted that Nigeria has already exhibited strong grasp of mediation strategies just like other countries like the United Kingdom, Singapore, Korean Republic, New Zealand and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She also stressed that being a mediator entails discovering the problem needs and interests of a client and utilising the best practicable means of solving same through mediation.

The Director-General, Professor Adedeji Adekunle SAN, together with other panellists lent credence to Ms Bucklow’s presentation, setting out specific sectors in Nigeria which required mediation strategies. Professor Adekunle was joined by other notable individuals on the Panel such as Honourable Justice Opeyemi Oke, Judge of the Lagos State High Court; Mrs. Amina Oyagbola, Partner KMS, former Pioneer Director of the MTN Foundation; and Mrs. Caroline Etuk, Director of the Lagos State Multidoorcourthouse.

The Conference was attended by members of the financial, business, legal, construction and medical communities, notable international experts, leading ADR practitioners and representatives of government.
