The African Bar Conference is an annual event held for lawyers all over Africa. The Theme of this years Conference is “Dissecting the Legal and Regulatory Frame Work For Doing Business in Africa and it remains relevant considering the myriad of challenges impeding ease of doing business in Africa such as human trafficking, bad governance, human rights abuses and absence of judicial independence. The conference recognised the fact that ‘A strong and independent judicial system is needed for business to thrive in Africa and therefore called for a stronger judicial system in Africa.

The event was to disseminate the report on the Research Carried out by the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) in Collaboration with Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) on Justice, Reconciliation and Healing in the North East of Nigeria termed “DEALING WITH THE PAST”.

The research as carried out between February and April 2017 in Borno and Yobe states respectively particularly because both states recorded more casualties from insurgencies. The reason for the event is to ensure that the findings of research are made available to the key decision actors. Especially those that provide demand functions and also supply functions. It is hoped that the research will encourage learning amongst institutionsand that the relevant government institutions and security agencies will take note of this research and see how to help not only in the north east but in other parts of Nigeria.
